What Do I Wear???

One of the first questions I get from my business clients is “What do I wear for my branding session?". This is especially true for my one-hour sessions. We only have a short time together and we want to maximize variety as much as possible. I wanted to share with you today how to make the biggest impact in your branding session with only five items and no outfit changes!

Step 1:

Decide on the vibe of your session, is the goal to get more casual photos or do you need to get more business professional, maybe somewhere in between? For the purposes of this post, we went with casual.

Step 2:

Layout everything you would think you want to wear for your session. This is where we get strategic! You want to find 1 bottom, 2 tops, a pair of shoes, and a fun accessory. Keep it simple but focus on the vibe you are going for and the color palette of your brand.

Step 3:

Try on everything and make sure it fits the way you like and doesn’t have any wrinkles, stains, missing buttons, or tears. Stand in front of a full-length mirror to ensure that your vision is coming together the way you imagine.

Step 4:

Send a photo of your outfit/accessories to your photographer so they can plan any additional props and get inspiration!

Step 5:

This is the day of the shoot where all your planning and prep work is going to shine! As you move through different poses make sure that you switch out props and accessories. In these photos that I did as examples, you can see how I used the jean jacket and the scarf to change up my look!

You can see how small changes in my, outfit, hair change (down/in bun), glasses on and off give me a variety of looks. These quick changes are key to not losing any time changing outfits and potentially messing up your hair and makeup. This is the process I use with all my brand clients to achieve a maximum amount of looks during our time together.

My next one-hour branding session is coming up on April 2, 2022 in Fairfax, Virginia at Twelve Studio DC. Claim your spot here.
